Erotic theme,as a taboo in Chinese society,is popular in Japanese artworks. In The Chrysanthemum and the Sword,Ruth Benedict points out the bipolarity of Japanese culture – Japan's erotic art reflects not only Japanese people's openness to sex,but also the interaction of two opposite powers in Japanese culture. At present, research on Japan's erotic art mainly focuses on videos and literary works, and relevant artistic works and the cultural problems behind them have been rarely mentioned. This paper analyzes the erotic consciousness contained in modern Japanese artworks, trying to reveal the cultural consciousness behind Japanese art.
