By analyzing the text structure and content of "Fei Cao Shu", a famous article on calligraphy attributed to Zhao Yi (ca. 130 - 185) of the Eastern Han Dynasty, this paper points out that the original intention of this article is not, using a phrase fi'om A Classified and Annotated Bibliography of Books on Calligraphy and Painting by Yu Shaosong, to "specially denounce the cursive hand", as people have believed for a long time. Actually, what the article focuses on are "Learning" and "Dao". And there are several kinds of descriptions about "cursive hand" in "Fei Cao Shu", such as the critical "Whole Course"( 本末之草 ) which means "Li Cao" ( 隶草 ) and "Cao Gao" ( 草稿本) in early phase, and "Contemporary" ( 今之草 ) which means "Zhang Cao~' ( 章草 ).
