Salinger and Robert Burns—— Reflections on The Catcher in the Rye and a Poem of Robert Burns

塞林格《麦田里的守望者》深受苏格兰十八世纪"农民诗人"罗伯特·彭斯的影响,不仅这部小说的题目来自彭斯的诗歌,而且这部小说的主题也与彭斯的诗作深度契合。进一步研究发现,塞林格与彭斯在以下几个方面极为相似:首先,他们作品中的(抒情)主人公都是放荡不羁者,与主流社会格格不入;其次,他们都痛斥社会(道德、宗教)的虚伪;最后,他们都具有自然、纯真、善良的人性,以此对抗社会的虚伪,使人类获得精神的救赎。

Salinger＇s The Catcher in the Rye is greatly influenced by Robert Burns,the Scottish peasant poet in the 18 th century.The name of the novel originates from Robert Burns＇ poems.The theme of the novel is also in line with Burns＇ poems.The further study finds that the similarity between Salinger and Burns lies in the following aspects：firstly,the heroes of their works are libertines and social misfits;secondly,all of them hate the hypocrisy of society（morality,religion）;last,both of Salinger and Robert Burns praise nature,innocence and kind humanity,which can be considered as the protest against social hypocrisy and therefore the salvation of human beings can be achieved.
