The Sputnik Sweetheart is a full-length novel written by Haruki Murakami in 1999. The partial plot comes from Murakami's short story Man-Eating Cats. To Haruki, the Sputnik Sweetheart is also one of his conversion period works, along with his nonfiction pieces Underground and Underground 2.This paper will analyze the changes in the viewpoint of the story narration, the arrangement of the story elements, and the relations with the subject in comparison with the short story. The changes of viewpoint in the narration of the long story provided the story with a different view, and helped convey the story, which is the most important aspect of the novel. Murakami's stories can cure everyone's loneliness by striking a responsive chord in the hearts of its readers, leading them to profound self-reflection.
