谣言除了具有众所周知的社会危害,也有协调社会关系的中性功能,主要表现在四个方面:一、谣言表达愿望、宣泄情绪、分摊恐惧、逃避指责,具有明显的心理抚慰功能。二、谣言是弱者的武器,是他们表达社会抗议的舆论工具。谣言作为公众情绪的下水道,起到发泄社会积怨、反映社会矛盾、借助舆论集体上书的规谏功能。三、谣言具有凝聚价值共同体的社会功能。谣言是集体认可的一种口头传统,这种传统有助于增强团队的认同感、凝聚力。四、谣言具有娱乐功能,原生娱乐谣言多以取悦听众为目的,虚拟或加工一些趣闻逸事,以纯娱乐为主;次生娱乐谣言往往以讽刺、恶搞既有谣言为目的,通过揶揄和嘲讽,对既有谣言和传谣行为实施打击。谣言处处表现出双刃剑的特征,是一种既令人憎厌,又无法割舍的语言民俗。

Rumors,as is known,are of social harms.However,they are also of neutral function of social relation coordination,which is manifested in the following aspects:first,rumors are an expression of public wishes,an outlet of emotions,an apportion of fears,and an evasion from accusation.They can play the role of psychological consolation;secondly,rumors are the weapons of the weak,the meadia conveying their social protests.Rumors,as drains of public emotions,are remonstration ways of venting social grievances,reflecting social contradictions,and collective appealing;thirdly,rumors are of the social function of rallying value communities.They are an collectively recognized oral tradition,which contributes to the sense of group identity and cohesion;fourthly,rumors carry the function of entertainment.Primary entertainment rumors are mostly aimed at pleasing their audience by inventing or working on some anecdotes,with sheer entertaining as their main purpose.Scondary rumors go usually with the aim of satirizing and spoofing the existing ones by way of teasing and sneering,countering their dissemination.Rumors bear themselves the features of a double-edged sword,which are an abominable oral folklore that is hard to part with.
