Shakespeare Motif in Joseph Heller's Catch 22

自文艺复兴以来,莎士比亚母题贯穿于整个西方文化史,尤其是在小说的历史之中。后现代文学时期,莎士比亚母题又被赋予了新的使命。海勒在《第二十二条军规》中成功地运用了莎士比亚母题,对后现代小说叙事、人文主义主题关注以及反文化政治策略都产生了明显的作用。论文以文本细读切入,结合文化批评的视角,对海勒《第二十二条军规》中的莎士比亚母题进行探究,旨在揭示莎士比亚对当代小说叙事所产生的重大影响。

Since the Renaissance, Shakespeare motif has been running through the whole history of western culture,especially in the history of novel. In postmodern literary period, Shakespeare Motif has been endowed with a new mission. In Catch-22, Heller uses successfully the Shakespeare motif which has a conspicuous effect on the postmodern narrative, humanistic thematic concern as well as the countercultural politics. By means of close-reading of the text, this paper explores the Shakespeare motif from the perspective of cultural studies, for the purpose of demonstrating Shakespeare's great influence on contemporary narrative.
