范文澜续写、重写《中国近代史》的构想及实践

Fan Wenlan's Idea and Attempt in Revising His History of Modern China

范文澜所著《中国近代史》的时间下限是义和团运动,未能实现其最初撰著近代史上、下编的构想。但实际上,范氏对于续写、重写《中国近代史》一直未曾忘怀。他在新中国成立前就有所规划;建国后则不仅有写作构想,更曾数次布置人力进行续写、重写工作,几经周折,惜乎天不假年,功亏一篑,《中国近代史》终未成完璧。本文拟以相关档案、日记及口述资料为基础,力图揭示范文澜续写、重写《中国近代史》的框架构想及实际举措,以冀前辈学人之努力不致湮灭无闻。

First published in the late 1940 s,Fan Wenlan's History of Modern China was one of his major works in history. As volume one,the original book ends with the Boxer Rebellion,thus incomplete in covering the whole course of modern history. But Fan never forsook the project. On the contrary,he worked at times to revise and extend the book after 1949. He also asked for assistants to help execute the project. However,throughout his life,Fan did not get the chance to materialize his plan. Based on archival sources,Fan's diary and interviews,this article seeks to reveal Fan's idea and attempt in continuing the writing of his History of Modern China,in hopes of preserving a memory of Fan and others' effort.
