A Singer Refusing to Fall Apart: A Survey of Inheritors of Oral Traditions in the Folk of Yugu People in South Gansu

裕固族是一个人数很少的民族,在祁连山麓广阔的山地草原徜徉恣意地生活着。他们没有自己的文字,却用歌声保存了族群的"集体记忆"。这个乐观通达的民族不仅把民歌作为裕固族人的娱乐方式,更把民歌作为民族情感、民族生活、民族文化的承载工具。民间歌手就像我们的历史学家、教育学家,他们通过口口相传的方式,一代一代把民族的历史和文化记录、教习、传递下来,历经千百年,裕固族人顽强保持住了自己的民族属性,并让外界感受到了他们内心丰沛的情感,对自然万物的深刻体验,以及对生活的特殊理解。

The Yugu people are a minority living at the grassland foot of the Qilian Mountain.They have no written language but preserve their ethnic ＂collective memory＂by means of singing. They regard folk songs as an entertainment and more importantly a vehicle of ethnic emotions,living and culture. The folk singers act as historians and educators,passing down history and culture from generation to generation through oral means,winning admiration from the outside world.
