During the handling process of container gantry cranes, spreader snag may occur sometimes. The momen- tary overload will damage the crane steel structure and run institutions and might cause serious accidents such as wire rope fracture, container falling, girder overthrow and operator cabin failing. Therefore, both gantry crane manufacturers and users have made great effort to analyze the cause of the spreader snag and also have done a lot of improvement. This article analy- zes the cause of the spreader snag in 6 aspects,and it proposes two kinds of safety protection schemes.
