Charles Kingsley's The Water Babies is not only a fairy tale about Tom's adventures, but also a text containing ecological wisdom. The author depicted a harmonious scene in the sea world, which symbolizes the utopia in his mind. In addition, Kingsley criticized the distorted desire of human beings and the "anthropocentrism". The introspection of humanity is the most important thing within the author's reflection of the industrial civilization. Through the death-rebirth of Tom, Kingsley emphasizes that, only by keeping the spiritual balance can human beings arrive in the blue utopia.
