It is a study on the correlation between salt and five viscera. Salt tastes salty, is of cold property and goes into kidney. Moderate salt intake can nourish the kidney which is the water viscus and salt dissolves into it. There is yuan-yin and yuan-yang in the kidney so that salt promotes the kidney to produce liver blood, to drop out internal heat, to defuse spleen-qi and to regulate lung. Excessive salt intake would damage kidney essence, which leads to kidney water flooding. The kidney is the origin of congenital constitution and associated to heart, liver, spleen and lung. As a result, excessive salt intake would consume kidney water and thus trigger liver fire, inhibit heart-qi, damage spleen-yang as well as consume lung-qi. Therefore, salt is related to heart, liver, spleen, lung and kidney, especially the kidney. Salt intake should be adjusted according to the constitution factors. Moderate salt is good for five viscera, but excessive salt is harmful to them.
