SHAO Zhao-di's experience in treating chronic renal failure

This paper introduced professor SHAO Zhao-di’s understanding of etiology and pathogenesis of chronic renal failure and her clinical treatment experiences. She considered that the basic pathogenesis of chronic renal failure is deficiency in origin and enrichment in symptom, the deficiency refers to deficiency of spleen and kidney, while enrichment in symptom is caused by damp evil, turbid toxins and blood stasis. And body resistance weakened while pathogenic factors prevailing throughout all the course of the disease. Professor SHAO emphasized the need to determination of etiologic factors based on differentiation of the disease and identify the pathogenesis in diagnosing the disease, distinguishes the disease is primarily deficiency in origin or enrichment in symptom. She recommended that the disease should be treated in stages, tonic treatment is adopted when the disease is mainly deficiency in origi, while attack treatment is adopted when the disease is mainly enrichment in symptom. She advocated for kidney-based treatment and valued the function of the spleen and stomach,at the same time, she was good at using the therapeutic method for tong. In treatment,she advocated the combination of disease and syndrome, also she emphasized the combination of TCM and western medicine.
