海峡两岸台风名称的对比分析

Comparative Analysis of Chinese Names of Typhoons Used in Both Sides of the Taiwan Straits

根据140个台风名称及其变更过程,对比2000年和2015年海峡两岸所使用的台风中文名称,发现2000年两岸台风名称有50%不一致。不一致的主因是台湾不采用意译,而大陆以意译居多。到2015年底,不一致率降到30%。其中前后变更的35个台风新名称,两岸一致率高达94%。一致率提高的主因是台湾接纳了意译的翻译原则。就台风名称来说,意译优于音译。

Based on the names of 140 typhoons and their change processes, compared to the Chinese names of typhoons used by both sides of the Taiwan Straits in 2000 and 2015, we found that 50% of typhoons’ names used in 2000 are inconsistent. The main reason is that free translations are not adopted in Taiwan, but are mostly adopted in the mainland. By the end of 2015, the inconsistency rate dropped to 30%. There are 35 typhoons＇ names changed during this period and 94% of the changed names were consistent between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits. The main reason for the improvement of consistency is that the principle of free translation has been accepted by Taiwan Region.
