The Nonconformist Practices of Stuart Hall：Cultural Studies and the Politics of Emancipation

Stuart Hall was a nonconformist intellectual in the tradition of the New Left. His work is heavily influenced by the writings of Antonio Gramsci. The central question of my contribution is what can we learn from Hall＇s work today. Firstly,we have to recognize the importance of intellectual interventions in order to change the world. Secondly,we should follow his creative way of using and combining theories and concepts. Then we can understand our present age and look for alternatives.
