美国语言学家伯托尔德·劳费尔对中亚古代语言文字的研究以其对吐火罗语、藏文、西夏文发表的三种成果为代表,内容涉及吐火罗语中的汉语外来词ri、汉语中的吐火罗语外来词"阿魏"、藏文书写形成时间与藏文语源、西夏文音韵学与句法结构等丰富内容,由此可窥其在语言学研究上重细节与实证、与历史学相结合、跨学科、立足科学的研究方法等特点。

Berthold Laufer is an American linguist. His studies on the ancient languages in Central Asia are represented by three publications related to Tocharian, Tibetan and Tangut, covering the Chinese word ＂ri＂ in Tocharian, Tocharian word ＂ankwa＂ in Chinese, the forming time of Tibetan writing, Tibetan etymology, Tangut phonology and syntactic structure, and other contents.His research on linguistics based on scientific research methods and emphasized the heavy details and evidence, combined it with the science of history and having the feature of interdisciplinary.
