义缘关系是指我国社会中的结义和干亲关系。"义"这一单字词乃传统文化中的重要概念,义缘中的"义"符合这一概念的一般性含义。历史上,无论是在上层社会,还是在民间百姓中,义缘关系都长期存在。在当今社会,义缘关系也普遍存在,并有诸多特点和表现形式。义缘关系既是大传统,也是小传统;义缘关系是中性文化,而不是封建糟粕;义缘关系有负功能,也有其正功能。

The notion of ＂yi relationship＂refers to the nominal kinship phenomenon in Chinese society.The Chinese character 义（ yi）,an important notion in traditional Chinese culture,shares the common connotation of that in notion ＂yi relationship＂. Historically,＂yi relationship＂enjoys a long time existence in both upper class and civil society. Even at present,＂yi relationship＂is still pervasive with features and existing forms. Yi relationship,a neutral culture not a feudal one,belongs to the great traditions as well as the little traditions,exerting both positive and negative influences.
