Thierry de Duve,one of the most eminent living art theorists,profoundly expounded the logic of the origin,operation and alteration of M odernism and thereby updated its narration by analyzing Greenberg's theory and the debate betw een T.J.Clark and M ichael Fried.His originality lies in the fact that through exploring the evolution of the relationship betw een modern art and " the receiver" and the formation of artistic conventions and the aesthetic pact,his study reveals the operating mechanism of M odernism,the superabundance of Avant-gardism and the risk of conventionalization of the art w orld since1960.His study provides a new perspective for us to understand contemporary art.
