雅美族因长期居住于我国台湾地区的兰屿离岛上,孤立的地理环境使雅美族的人们长期过着自给自足的生活,在长期的生活中雅美族的人们发展出了许多适应自己生活的各类工艺,其中尤以造船工艺技术最为精湛,无论是从选材,还是具体的制作、装饰等方面来看,都最能代表雅美族传统工艺技术水平,这门独特的技术反映了雅美族人的造物智慧,这些精湛的造物智慧被新一代的族人运用各种方式加以继承,其中一些创作者就以此为主题进行了一些全新的创作,为这项传统工艺的活态化传承做出了一定的贡献。

Because of living on Lanyu island which is isolated geographical environment in long-term in Taiwan, the people of Yami tribe has living self- sufficient life for a long time, and the yami tribe people had been developed all kinds of craft to adapt their life, and the shipbuilding is the best of all those craft. No matter from it＇s material selection, concrete production or decoration, etc. The shipbuilding craft can be on behalf of the best level of Yami tribe＇s traditional craft. The unique process reflects the wisdom and creative ability of Yami, these exquisite creation wisdom is inherited with a variety of ways by new generation. Some creators have done some new creation of this theme and have made certain contribution for this traditional craft.
