A Brief Analysis on the Dilemmas of Females' Survival in "My Memories of Old Beijing"

林海音的《城南旧事》通过人物刻画和环境再现试图记录下自己的童年生活,在书写自己深挚的离绪和乡愁的同时,作者还通过儿童视角来注视大人的世界,传达出对女性命运的关注。小说中女性都处于一种无知和无能为力的处境当中。男性的绝对统治导致女性话语权被剥夺,陷入一种坎坷却又无法言说的处境。女性之间理解的缺失以及看客心理加剧了女性的生存困境。女性自身与生俱来的不抵抗的奴性则使其命运被困境绑架。

Through characterization and environment reproduction, Lin Haiyin attempts to record her childhood life in ＂My Memories of Old Beijing＂. While depicting her deep nostalgia,she expresses her concerns about females＇ fate from a child＇s perspective. All females in the novel are ignorant and powerless,while males＇ absolute domination deprives females of their discourse power, leaving them in a bumpy but unspeakable situation. The lack of mutual understanding among females, onlookers＇ psychology, and females＇ inborn nonresistance aggravate the dilemmas of females＇ survival.
