Having carefully analyzed the characters in ＂Whipping＂, the writer found that all of them, ordinary and primary but free from the influence of social civilization, however, are full of the original instinct of life, such as Ma Wu＇s transformation from selfishness to selflessness, Li Sanyou＇s transformation from cowardice to benevolence, Tie Hai＇s transformation from ignorance to ferocity, and Wang Yinlan＇s transformation from naivety to righteousness.
