A Study on the Wu Clan in Pucheng and Their Affinity in the Song Dynasty

浦城吴氏家族以科举起家,其成员中有兄弟两人先后位至宰执,在"尚官"而不"尚阀阅"的宋代,可称得上是盛族。吴氏家族的姻亲选择对家族的发展总的来说是有利的,但在当时日益激烈的党争中,也有对其家族发展不利的一面。和宋代许多世家大族一样,吴氏家族历四代而迅速衰落,其原因有那个时代的共性,也有吴氏家族的特殊情况。

The Wu clan in Pucheng built itself up by relying on the imperial examination and its members, the two brothers, became the prime minister, which made it regarded as a famous clan in the Song Dynasty. Overall, their affinity selection was beneficial to the development of the clan, but in the increasingly fierce party struggles, also detrimental to the development of the clan. Like many famous clan, the Wu clan just experienced four generations and rapidly declined, and its causes were in common in that era, meanwhile, also had its own special reasons.
