董玘与徐阶因缘略论

The Karma between Dong Qi and Xu Jie

董玘是明代中期知名理学家、史学家、文学家,徐阶则是大名鼎鼎的嘉靖、隆庆两朝首辅,明代杰出政治家。董玘与徐阶渊源很深,董是徐科举道路上的座师,又是文字之师、政治之师。而徐作为门生,也感恩师念,投桃报李,为保护座师子嗣免遭严党构陷、为座师死后的平反都尽了自己的努力,成就了一段师生相得的佳话。

Dong Qi was a renowned Neo-Confucianist,historian and writer in the mid Ming dynasty,whereas Xu Jie was a wellknown first Grand Secretary in the reign of Emperor Jiajing and Emperor Longqing,an outstanding statesman in the Ming dynasty.Dong Qi and Xu Jie were closely tied; the former,a mentor of the latter on his way to the Imperial Examinations,instructed both literature and politics to the latter. As a disciple,Xu expressed his gratitude to his mentor and did something in return by protecting Dong＇s off-springs from false charges from the gang of Yan Song and by sparing no effort to redress Dong＇s grievance after his death,hence an anecdote of the mentor and the disciple.
