将徐志摩《偶然》一诗中的情感表达视为诗人对于人生际会的感悟是可以理解的,而诗歌中体现出的自由、自然、忧郁等诗歌气质,也与徐志摩的一段人生际会有着莫大的关联。从应然的视角审视徐志摩与罗素、泰戈尔和哈代的交际与交流,能够找到《偶然》的更深层意蕴。他追随罗素,追随自由;亲近自然,亲近泰戈尔;翻译哈代,濡染忧郁。这些看上去驳杂的诗绪,构成了徐志摩以《偶然》为代表的一系列诗歌的重要气质,也让他在新诗坛成为一位具有独特价值的重要诗人。

It is acceptable that sentiment in Accidental by Xu Zhimo is regarded as his inspiration on his life experience. Mean- while, his poetry gives expression to the disposition of freedom, nature, depression and etc, which results from his life experience. He followed Russell for enjoying freedom; he was close to nature for approaching Tagore; he translated Hardy and is immersed in depres- sion. All of these heterogeneous features made up the disposition of Xu Zhimo＇s poems, which turned him to be a unique and significant poet in the new poetic circle.
