Embarrassing Lost of New Female——An Analysis of Thematic Meaning in "Cat in the Rain"

本文运用结构主义文论的核心思想"二元对立"的原则重新审视与欣赏海明威著名短片小说《雨中猫》中新女性的迷失窘境。从动态与静态一组二元对立出发,剖析自然与文明的不和谐关系,暗示出女主人公迷失的内心世界与艰难的现实生活。又从另外二组丈夫与妻子、老板与丈夫的冲突与矛盾中,揭示出以妻子为代表的新时代女性在追求自我解放的旅途中,受到家庭与社会的阻挠,前进艰难,后退无路的尴尬处境。

This paper aims to use the principle of ＂ binary opposition＂. The core idea of structuralism theory is to re- examine and appreciate new woman＇s lost in Heming way＇s famous short story called cat in the rain. Starting from the dynamic and static binary opposition,the inharmonious relationship between nature and civilization has been showed,which implies the lost inner world of the heroine and difficulties in real life. And from the other two groups,the conflict and contradiction between husband and wife and boss,it reveals that American wife who is a representation of new women in the pursuit of self- liberation is always blocked by the family and society,which leads to her embarrassing dilemma.
