The Selection of Translation Strategies in Dealing with the Non-equivalence of Lexical Semantics between English and Chineseg

英汉是两种不同的语言符号,在语义上和文化上都有显著的差异。分析英汉词义的差异时,我们会发现两种语言间存在着不对等的现象。将英文词汇翻译成汉语时,我们会选择适当的策略来弥合由于词义造成的差异,使之译文流畅。文章从英汉语言体系和词义特征角度来探讨词义差异的本质和不对等的语言现象,以及它们对翻译策略的影响。

English and Chinese possess different semantic and cultural features. Analyzing their distinctions in word meaning,we can detect the non-equivalent phenomena. Translating from English to Chinese,we may select suitable translation strategies to deal with the non-equivalence caused by word meaning in order to make the translation smooth. This paper aims to explore the non-equivalent nature of word meaning from the perspectives of the two different language systems and lexical semantics and then highlight their significance to the selection of translation strategies.
