In A Visit from the Goon Squad, Jennifer Egan turns away from the narrative convention of using space merely as the setting of a story. Rather, she regards space as a historical metaphor and employs fractal as well as topic-juxtaposition narratives to outline the history of punk rock and to trace the American dream of three generations, through which a fifty-year American social and cultural history is presented.
