Requirements of the Minamata Convention on Mercury to calcium carbide method PVC industry were described. Consumption and emission of mercury in calcium carbide method PVC industry in China were introduced. The gap between current situation of calcium carbide method PVC industry in China and obligations under the convention was especially analysed, and related countermeasures and proposals were put forward.
