Jiulong Mountain is located 9 km to the south of Qufu. There are 9 rolling hilltops from north to south, which shape like a long dragon, hence the name Jiulong Mountain, literally meaning ninedragon mountain.Overlooking the northwest from the dragon head hilltop to the north, one may see five cliff tombs of the King of Lu of the Western Han Dynasty on the cliff in the south of the mountain.According to the excavation on the mountain, these tombs not only represent the largest group of cliff tombs in China so far,but also are important materials for the research on the tomb structure of the kings in the Western Han Dynasty. In 1970,Shandong Museum explored the Cliff Tombs on Jiulong Mountain.Apart from the tomb in the east which has not been excavated, the other four cliff tombs in the west have been excavated. In 1977,the Cliff Tombs on Jiulong Mountain were declared as a Cultural Relics Site under the Key Protection of Shandong Province. In 2001,the Tomb of the King Lu of the Han Dynasty was listed as a Cultural Relics Site under the National Key Protection.
