So far, the date of tombs buried with Yan-style bronze dui and dou has not been fully addressed. Through a comprehensive analysis of surface decoration, this paper identifies certain developmental patterns. The author highlights that the themes in decorative motifs combine not only elements adopted from the surrounding areas but also Yan local tradition. Most importantly, although the earliest type of motif shares similar of decorations that were widely used in Central Plains during the Late Spring-and-Autumn period, remains from the same context show that the feature should date to the Warring States period. This new discovery provides new evidence to reconsider the standard of the relative-date of Yan State burials during the Eastem Zhou period.
