A Comparative Analysis on the Metaphorical Connotation of English and Chinese Color Terms

人类对颜色的认知与自身的生理特征和生活体验有着密切的联系。由于认知的共性,英汉颜色词的文化隐喻内涵有许多相同之处;另一方面,受自然环境及社会文化环境的影响,英汉颜色词的隐喻内涵更具有鲜明的民族文化特征。对比研究英汉颜色词的隐喻意义,有助于了解不同文化的认知模式,减少跨文化交际过程中的障碍,促进英语教学。

Human beings＇ cognition to color relates closely to our physiological features as well as our life experience. Due to cognitive universality,there are a lot of similarities in cultural metaphor connotation between English and Chinese color terms. On the other hand,because of the effect of different natural environment and social culture environment,there are more distinctive national culture features.Comparing and researching into the metaphorical meaning of color terms in English and Chinese can help us understand different cognitive patterns in different culture,decrease the obstacles in cross-cultural communication and improve English teaching and learning.
