潘懋元是中国高等教育学科的创始人,也是我国高等教育学科和高等教育研究的掌舵者。他敏锐的问题意识和强烈的学以致用思想,深刻体现出他建设学科的基本宗旨和从事理论研究的长远思考。立足于中国高等教育发展与改革中的真问题,通过科学取证、合理推导的研究过程,从理论上去服务实践、指导实践,成为潘懋元高等教育研究的基本特征。

Pan Maoyuan is not only a founder of higher education as a subject,but also a pilot in higher education research. He has keen sense of problems and strong concept of learning for practice,which deeply demonstrates his basic aim of subject construction and theory study. Based on the problems of higher education and reform in our country,through the process of scientific evidence and reasonable deduction,Pan's major feature in higher education research is to serve and guide the practice with the help of the theory.
