武冈地名源流考

Research on the Origin and Development of the Place Name of Wugang

西汉元帝三年(前174)置武冈县,县治今武冈市新东乡七里桥。历有武冈、都梁、武刚、武强、武攸、武冈州称谓。其历史文化深厚,皆有源流可考。三国吴之后,县名数改,区划数更,县域随改,县治随区划而迁。北宋初复名武冈,县治迁入今址,成古城不易。

In the third year of the Western Han Dynasty （174 B.C.）, Wugang County was set up, with its government located in Qiliqiao, belonging to the Town of Xindong, Wugang City today. Wugang County was once named Wugang（武冈） , Douliang, Wugang（武刚） , Wuqiang, Wuyou and Wugang Prefecture.Its profound historical and cultural origins can still be traced today.After Wu Kingdom, the county government moved several times, as the name and administrative division, as well as the county area were changed.The name Wugang （武冈） was reused at the beginning of the Northern Song Dynasty, the county government transferred to the present address.Wugang has experienced a lot before it becomes an ancient city today.
