A Revisit to Asymmetric L2 Acquisition of Expletive it as Formal Subjects and Formal Objects in Chinese-English Interlanguage Grammar

以二语阅读能力为协变量探讨非英专学生习得英语虚指结构的语义感和语法感是中介语语法研究的重点内容。基于先前研究中形式宾语难于形式主语的结论,本研究从语义感和语法感入手进一步探讨英语虚指结构的中介语状况。所得结论为:中介语语法中,语义感显著强于语法感,而造成这种非对称性的主要原因可能在于中介语表现本质上是一种缺乏创造性的适应性行为,因此成人二语者不太可能具有目标语的语言直觉,因而导致目标语语法感的缺失。

Taking L2 reading competence as a covariate variable, this study takes the semantic and grammatical intuition as its research content. Based on the previous conclusion that formal subjects are easier than formal objects, this study further ex- plores the L2 acquisition of English expletive constructions and confirms the finding that semantic intuition is significantly stronger than grammatical intuition in interlanguage grammar. The cause that leads to such an asymmetry might be due to the essence of L2 as an adaptive behaviour lacking creativity and thus adult L2 learners have little linguistic intuition, grammatical intuition in particular, to the target language.
