Network-assisted EFL Instruction is an integration of network technology and the traditional face-to-face classroom teaching. In recent years, with the rapid development of computers and network, more and more educational institutions around the world are applying computers and network to facilitate learning and teaching. In the field of English language study, network- assisted EFL instruction is also burgeoning. As an element of education, the teacher is crucial to the teaching progress, and the study of teachers' roles has always been of great concern for educators. Now with the adoption of computers and network in Eng- lish education, teachers should also adjust their roles so as to fit into this new type of teaching. The thesis aims at studying and exploring teachers' roles in Network-assisted EFL Instruction. By conducting questionnaires and interviews, the author analyzes the frequency of teachers' different teaching activities in using the Blackboard Academic Suite, and thus draws a continuum of teachers' roles: in Network-assisted EFL Instruction, teachers are announcers and designers before class, lecturers and organ- izers in class, and assessors, assistants, resources and facilitators after class. The thesis further studies the barriers for teachers to perform their roles in Network-assisted EFL instruction, which provides new insights for Network-assisted EFL Instruction and teacher training in the very field.
