The Generation Process of “Shun's Filial-piety” and its Cultural Connotation in Mencius

虞舜是孟子非常推崇的一位上古圣王。孟子将虞舜塑造为一位躬行孝道的"百世之师"。《孟子》中的虞舜行孝的故事根源于《尚书》的《尧典》、《舜典》等篇章,但并非完全忠实于历史文献,而是在历史真实的基础上进行了一定的文学演绎。在虞舜形象文学化的过程中,孟子提出了自己的道德伦理主张,并成功地塑造出舜和其弟象这两位经典的正反面角色。在进行人物形象塑造的过程中,孟子借用历史经典事件和人物作为原型,使得故事内涵更为丰富,人物形象更加饱满,并且在其中注入了丰富的文化内涵。

Shun is an ancient sage whom Mencius esteemed. Mencius wanted to shape Shun as a noble master in practicing filial piety. The story of ＂Shun＇s filial piety＂in Mencius was rooted in the ＂Classics of Yao＂,the ＂Classics of Shun＂and other chapters in the Book of History,but rather than being entirely faithful to historical documents,it was a certain literary interpretation based on the real history. In the formation of Shun ＇s literary image,Mencius presented his own ethical ideas,and successfully created Shun and his brother as positive and negative roles. In the process of shaping the image of the characters,Mencius referred to classic historical events and figures as prototypes,which enriched the story as well as the characters,and infused more cultural connotation in the story.
