On History and Current Situation of the Library of Congress

This paper briefly introduced the history of the Library of Congress in three stages：the origin, the rapid development of the Library collections, and its further development. Then its current situation is explored in three as- pects ： its holdings, its operation, and its service. Such practices of the Library as respecting intellectual property, pro- tecting creativity, and serving public have certain enlightenment significance to the development of our library.
