Historical Development of the Word “Leader”

本文分先秦至西汉、东汉至隋、唐五代、宋元明、清五个时期,对"领袖"一词的演变进行历时研究。每个时期选取代表性专书,对"领袖"的用例情况进行穷尽式调查,研究"领袖"由最初的[衣服的领和袖]义演变为[人中优秀者,表率者]义的演变过程,并探究其演变脉络及演变原因。

The paper researched on historical development of the word ＂leader＂ in five periods, such as, from the Pre-Qin Dynasty to the Western Han Dynasty, from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Sui Dynasty, Tang and Five Dynasties, Song Yuan and Ming Dynasties, and the Qing Dynasty. Representative special books were selected as sample to study the examples of the usage of the word＂leader＂. The word ＂leader＂was developed from the primary meaning ＂collar and sleeves＂ to ＂outstanding people＂. The paper explored its context and the reason of the development.
