Departure and Regress: Relations between Monks and Nuns and Their Secular Families in the Northern Dynasties

北朝时期的职业信徒,作为一个本应"出家"的群体,并没有完全断绝同世俗家庭的联系。出家人不仅关心本生家庭成员的生死病葬,在家庭抑或家族发生重大变故之时,仍然是同呼吸,共命运。这种关系,不仅为世俗家庭成员带来宗教关怀,也起到了向广大俗众宣教的客观效果。

As a group of professional believers away from home,monks and nuns in the Northern Dynasties didn＇t cut off the links with their secular families. Instead,they cared about the matters of life,death,illness and funeral of their family members and stayed with them when major changes took place in the family. This kind of relationship brought both religious concern for family members and a missionary effect to the masses objectively.
