试析林同济译作《丹麦王子哈姆雷的悲剧》中文学性与表演性的兼顾问题

On Compatibility Between Literary Merits and Stage Effect in Lin Tongji's Chinese Translation of Hamlet

作为研究莎士比亚的著名学者,林同济教授一生情系莎学,他的译作《丹麦王子哈姆雷的悲剧》有其鲜明的特点和独到之处。从译作的文学性来看,林教授做到了形神兼备移译莎剧,形式上以诗体译诗,努力还原其诗剧的原貌,体现了"形似";语言上则基本采取了"归化"的翻译策略,尽可能移译原剧独到语言,再现原剧之神韵,力求"神似"。同时,努力兼顾原剧的戏剧表演性特征,译文雅俗共赏,台词力求上口,力求可供演出之用。总体上,他的译作体现了译者追求文学性与戏剧表演性兼顾的不懈努力。

Professor Lin Tongji was a well- known scholar of Shakespeare study. His Chinese translation of Hamlet has its distinctive characteristics and unique features. From the perspective of literary merits,Lin managed to achieve the goal of resemblance both in spirit and in form in his translating Hamlet. As to the form,he chose to render the verses in original play into verses in Chinese and tried his best to reproduce the poetic charm of the original play,which reflects likeness in form. As to the language,he basically adopted the translation strategy of domestication,and was highly faithful to the unique charm of original language in order to achieve the effect of likeness in spirit. From the perspective of stage effect,Lin also took into account the theatrical features of the original play to suit both refined and popular tastes and used catchy lines for the purpose of stage performance. Generally speaking,Lin＇s translation of Hamlet reflects his tireless efforts of pursuing the compatibility between literary merits and stage effect.
