A Study on the Diminutive Representations of Noun Reduplications across Dialects

本文将汉语方言中的名词小称表达法归纳为“附加型”“重叠型”“音变型”三种基本形式,总结了重叠型小称在汉语方言中的分布情况,并通过跨方言的比较,探讨了重叠在汉语方言名词小称表达中的位置,认为重叠型小称是弥补附加型小称语法化损耗的一种更新手段,重叠式小称后缀则是在具有重叠型小称的方言中用来弥补附加型小称语法化损耗的一种强化手段。

This paper concludes the diminutive representations of nouns into three types：affixation, reduplication and phonetic change. It summaries the geographical distributions of the reduplicative diminutive in Chinese dialects. Based on a comparison of across dialects, it discusses the status of noun reduplication in the Chinese diminutive representations. It holds that the reduplicative diminutive of nouns is a renewal means to make up the grammaticalizational loss of affixation diminutive, while the reduplicative suffix is a reinforement means to make up the grammaticalizational loss of affixation diminutive in dialects which have the reduplicative diminutive of nouns.
