The state-of-the-art of membrane fouling and cleaning method were systematically illus- trated. The causes of membrane fouling were analyzed in the terms of molecular weight and pollutant characteristics, the methods for prevention and cleaning of membrane fouling were proposed, and anti- pollution measures of membrane surface modification were described.
