This paper clarifies that the custom of"Duige"(singing love songs to each other)originated in the Hmong festival for worshiping the sun at the eastern gate of towns. This Hmong festival can be traced back to the Cheng-Tou-Shan(城头山)remains in the northwestern part of Hunan Province 6,500-4,200 years ago,and then it spread to Shangdong Province and the eastern part of Henan Province with a Hmong-Yue group called "Jiuli".So,we can find some works related to the custom of"Duige"(singing love songs to each other)at the eastern gate of towns in Chenfengand Zhengfengof The Book of Odes.
