With special fluvial trend,particular topographical environment,and specific Mei- yu weather,Jianli County was closely tied to the flood in Qing Dynasty. Countless floods occurred here brought relentless disasters to local society and people. The Qing ’s rulers and local government took effective measures to deal with the flood and its aftermath. Meanwhile,the gentry acted as benevolent participators who relieve victims for the public good,which made great contributions to the flood defense.
