About Duanwu Festival

端午节是中国的传统节日,胶东民间倾向于＂端午节为纪念诗人屈原而设立＂一说。纪念屈原一说,最早出自南朝梁代吴均《续齐谐记》和北周宗懔《荆楚岁时记》的记载。相传,屈原生前为楚国大夫,性情耿介,一心向国。而昏聩的楚王听信谗言,将其治罪并流放。

The fifth day of the fifth month in the lunar calendar is called Duanwu Festival.It is also called Duanwu Duanyang and Chongwu.Duan means the beginning and the fifth day is named as Duanwu.In the lunar calendar the months are designalcd by the Twelve Earthly Branches with the first month called Yin,the secone month Mao,the fifth month Wu.Therefore the fifth month is also called Month Wu.In Chinese Wu has the same pronunciation as Wu(Five) Therefore insome places Duanwu Festival is also called May Festival,Asiatic Wormwood Festival and Summer Festival.
