Objective To explore the effect of new scheme for placing disposable items, make sure that disposable items are accurately kept, prevent the items from expiring, save sources, guarantee clinical need, and reduce nurses' work. Methods The management of disposable items in orthopedics before using the checklist from March to December,2014 was set as a control group. The management of disposable items after using the checklist from January to October,2015 was set as an experimental group. The item-receiving times,item-lacking times,item-expiring times, the satisfaction degree of doctor to nurse were compared between these two groups. Results The item-receiving times,item-lacking times, and item-expiring times were fewer in the experimental group than in the control group. The satisfaction degree of doctor to nurse was 92.00% in the experimental group and 32.00% in the control group (x2=19.10,P〈0.01).Conclusions The new management strategy for disposable items can reduce the nurses' workload, improve work efficiency, and prevent disposable items from expiring. This new strategy provides a good protocol of the management of disposable items and should be introduced.
