German writer Wilhelm Genazino's novels often take alienation as the theme. His later works usually focus on the alienated behavior and psychology of modern people in family, workplace and interpersonal relations. These novels particular focus on the personal solitude, lost emotion, the anxiousness and the fear suffering because of the shadow of death. In Wilhelm Genazino's novels, death not only refers to the end of life, but also has a symbolic meaning, i.e., the extinction of the normal social relations, because the human nature is destroyed by the fully materialized era and society.
