A literature review of early English translations of Chinese classic novels(1800-1840)

为深化典籍英译研究,指导典籍英译实践,发掘中国文学对外传播的有效途径。通过梳理中国古典小说早期英译(1800-1840)研究现状,发掘存在的问题并提出研究思路与方法,认为中国古典小说早期英译是中外文学、文化交流史的重要篇章,值得进一步专题研究。

This paper aims to deepen the translation studies of Chinese classics, guide relevant translation practice and help discover the effective means for the overseas spread of Chinese classic literature. By reviewing studies on the early translation of Chinese classic novels in the period from 1800 to 1840, the paper explores the existing problems and proposes feasible research methods. It is concluded that the early translation of Chinese classic novels constitutes an important part in the history of literature and culture communication between China and foreign countries, which is worth further research.
