The “Pink Tide”:The Rise and Fall of the Left-Wing Parties in Latin America

上个世纪末,在国际局势变化、"第三波民主化浪潮"以及外生经济冲击等因素的综合作用下,许多拉美国家的左翼政党掌握了政权,迎来了被称作"粉色浪潮"的左翼运动高潮。然而,近两年来,由于经济不景气和左翼政党任期内的政策失误与腐败等问题,拉美主要国家的左翼执政党正面临一场严重的危机,可能导致"粉色浪潮"的消退。由于中国在拉美有大量的投资和贷款,"粉色浪潮"的消退可能导致中国的经济利益严重受损,亟需调整经济与外交政策予以应对。

Since the end of the last century,many left-wing parties in Latin America have gradually become the ruling parties,which ushered in a new era dubbed'Pink Tide'.The rise of the 'Pink Tide' has been attributed to the changes in the international situation,the arrival of the so-called 'third wave of democratization' and probably more importantly,the exogenous economic shock.However,over the past two years,the 'Pink Tide' seems to be ebbing,which could be explained by the economic recessions,policy failures and corruption of the leftwing ruling parties in several Latin American countries.Since China has had a huge amount of investment and loans in the 'pink' states in Latin America,China is now faced with potential defaults by these countries,and therefore is under pressure to consider the adjustment of her diplomatic and economic policies vis-à-vis those Latin American countries.
