Principles and Characteristics of Sign Language Syllables:Based on Verbal Language Syllables

音节是有声语言的自然属性,手语也不例外。如果说有声语言的音节结构以响音度强弱为表达形式,那么手语音节结构就是以视觉度的强弱为表达形式。文章认为,手语的音节以运动为核心,最大结构单位是PMP;有声语言的音节是序列性结构复杂,同时性结构简单,而手语音节结构是序列性结构简单,同时性结构十分丰富和复杂;有声语言的音节是超音段的,而手语的"音段"(手型)是超音节的。

Verbal language has syllables as its natural attribute, and sign language is no exception. If the syllabic structure of verbal language presents sonorant degrees, the syllabic structure of sign language shows visual degrees. The present paper holds views as follows： Sign language syllables focus on movement, with PMP being the largest structural unit; unlike sign language syllables, verbal language syllables are featured by their complex sequential structure and simple simultaneous structure; verbal language syllables are super sound, but sign language sound （hand type） is super syllables.
