党在民主革命时期虽未提出"从严治党"这一概念,但已经意识到治党必须从严,并在诸多方面采取措施从严加强自身建设。随着党由幼年走向成熟,从严治党也在探索中不断发展,一整套符合实际的治党方法逐渐形成。这一过程中,党着眼于不同时期革命任务的需要从严开展思想教育、从严培育优良作风、从严推进组织建设、从严建立党的制度,将自身锻造成一支坚强革命队伍,为取得民主革命胜利提供了组织保证。
